According to a SmartBrief study sponsored by the Wall Street Journal, 99% of guests travel with at least one device. Of those, 45% travel with 2 devices and 40% travel with 3 or more.
On a recent vacation with friends, four of us stayed in a 2 BR condo. Although we never used the dining table for dining, it was heavily utilized as a communal work station. Between 4 of us, we had 4 smartphones, 3 tablets and 4 laptops. This photo shows what the corner of the dining area ended up looking like. One of the couples packed a power strip and 2 extension cords to accommodate our power needs. If we had been traveling with pets or children, this system would not have worked.
Considerations for Multiple Device Usage:
As you audit the device-friendliness of the homes in your rental program, consider how and where your guests are likely to use devices during their stay. Here are some considerations:
- 3 prong vs. 2 prong power receptacles
- Extension cords
- Power Strips
- Easily accessible indoor/outdoor power outlets
- Communal work stations
- Ways to keep cords out of reach of children and pets
Offering WiFi
Guests expect WiFi at their accommodations. By providing free WiFi you improve customer experience and grow your brand through social media. You may or may not decide to offer it for free, but whether or not you choose to offer free wireless internet access, consider using WiFi landing pages to collect customer data.
For example, you may allow guests to log in to your WiFi for free using their social media or mobile number.
Or use WiFi landing pages to capture customer data including email address, mobile number, social media demographics, time/date & more.
Most likely, you have collected data on the guest who actually made the reservation. By using WiFi to gather customer information from other members of the vacationing party, you can begin to expand your marketing efforts to provide comprehensive communications to all guests staying in your properties.
